Get Involved There are many ways you can help with our program either by becoming a Volunteer or by Sponsorship.  Be a Volunteer Make a difference in somebody's life. Training will be provided. Previous riding experience is helpful, but not necessary. A volunteer must be 14 years of age or older. We also need office helpers and assistance with special events. Download a Volunteer Application Here.  Sponsor the program Ride to Fly is a non-profit corporation organized under the laws of the State of California and is therefore tax exempt. We rely heavily on grants and donations to keep our program operating. Types of sponsorships (annually): Partner $1,000.00 Associate $500.00 Sustainer $200.00 Friend $25.00 Corporate donations are welcome!  General Volunteer Duties Before/After a Lesson: Clean/groom horses Put tack on a horse (saddle, bridle, etc); Remove tack from a horse During Lessons: Horse Leader. The leader is in charge of guiding the horse around the ring. In the case of adept clients, the leader walks beside the head of the horse as a safety precaution but allows the client to perform all the steering of the horse. Side walker. There are usually two side walkers. They walk beside the hip of the client and assist in the lesson. This may involve verbal repetition of the instructor's direction, physical assistance to carry out the instructor's direction, physical assistance to maintain the client's balance in the saddle, etc. Side walkers are also trained on how to perform an emergency dismount if any problems occur during the lesson. Volunteers are currently needed on Saturdays from 9:00AM till 4:30PM. Volunteers should plan to dedicate a minimum of a two-hour block of time to the program on a twice-monthly basis.
